Painting Kuching in Watercolour

Happy New Year

Posted on: 07/01/2011

Here is my completed painting of the Diocesan Centre view from Wayang Street. I was in Ewe Hai Street trying to locate the old site of my grandfather’s clinic that rainy day. I ended up having iced lemon tea at the stall in front of the Chinese temple on the corner of Ewe Hai and Wayang Street, looked up and saw this view. In my painting I have used my artist license and left out the street lamps, a couple of shrubs, and gave the clouds a silver lining!

This was painted on 300lbs. Arches cold pressed paper, 9 x 12 inches. I mail ordered this paper thinking if it is 300lbs. I wouldn’t have to spent additional time stretching it, just mix my paints and start splashing. But! The surface is not as smooth as on a 140lbs Fabriano paper, rather too rough for my detailed flower portraits so I am going to use it for my landscapes attempts.

Excellent painting, your sky is just amazing and the old building shows the texture nicely. Great work and have a nice day.

Thank you for your kind comment. I am hoping to paint some more fine old buildings in Kuching – need to find the time!
